From intensive care
to the family clinic

Cindy A. Okolo, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC

Cindy A. Okolo has spent more than seventeen years in healthcare, nine of them as a nurse practitioner, and much of that time was spent where the margin for error is smallest.

Before primary care she worked high acuity and hospitalist settings across four hospital systems, caring for patients with complex cardiac and neurological conditions. Her background runs through critical care, internal medicine, family medicine and dermatology, and she has taught nursing online alongside the clinical work.

Today she is a family nurse practitioner and primary care provider at Missouri Highlands Healthcare in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The work is the ordinary and demanding kind: chronic conditions managed over years, acute problems seen quickly, individual wellness plans built around what a patient can actually keep doing, and the follow through in between.

She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Midwestern University in 2025 and holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Governors State University, taken on the family nurse practitioner track. She has led critical care teams, she mentors future healthcare professionals, and she speaks English and Igbo.

“Every patient deserves to feel heard, cared for, and supported, and that is the heart of what I do every day.” Cindy A. Okolo, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC
“Healthcare is about more than treating symptoms: it’s about understanding people, their stories, and their goals.” Cindy A. Okolo, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC
